Birthdays and getting older

On the week of June 10 we celebrated members of our team in Alexandria who were either having an anniversary with SMPS or a birthday.  Both are momentous occasions around here and in this market climate…we are always looking for positive things to celebrate.  As you contemplate your own reasons to be thankful, I wanted to share with you an article I just received from a friend in New Hampshire, David Woody, who published in his newsletter ‘Great Things About Getting Older…’  Hope some of these put a smile on your face today and less worry about the years behind you:

  • One martini does the work of three.
  • People pick up the things you drop.
  • Boys don’t snap your bra.
  • You can talk to strangers.
  • You feel free to criticize the parenting skills of people you don’t know.
  • People get out of your way when you drive down the street.
  • You children can brush their own teeth, take out their own splinters and wipe their own bottoms.
  • You save on shampoo.
  • Your ophthalmologist may suggest marijuana for your glaucoma.
  • Going to bed is simpler now that you can fall asleep in your chair.
  • Adult diapers are actually kind of convenient.
  • Saying you forgot is enough of an excuse.
  • The crummy shows you watched as a kid are now called the Golden Age of Television.
  • It’s easier to pick your teeth now—just take them out of your mouth and hold them up to the light.
  • When you talk, people call it oral history.
  • Why wait for dark to go to bed?
  • Lotion-impregnated toilet paper.
  • Things you buy now don’t wear out.
  • You’re less and less likely to be subjected to a strip search.
  • The convenience of having your own oxygen supply.
  • Why doesn’t everyone have a chair in the shower?
  • You can sit up in bed by just pushing a button.
  • Your grandchildren will be impressed that you lived in the 20th century. -–from 1003 Great Things About Getting Older

Enjoy Today and Life!!

More than any time in history, mankind faces a crossroads.  One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness, the other to total extinction.  Let us pray that we have the wisdom to choose correctly.”
--Woody Allen

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.”
--John Lennon

The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past as better than it was, the present worse that it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.”
--Marcel Pagnol
